Waiting for Sun and Power Booster

Station’s new hardware, WeatherFlow Tempest is solar powered without no possibility to provide external power to it. (To be accurate, the sensor unit located outdoors is solar powered; there is a base station indoors connected to wifi and it is powered by USB adapter). After installation on November 25, it has been overcast all the time, without any adequate solar power available. Fully charged, Tempest should run 2 weeks without sunlight. That two weeks will be reached on Tuesday, December 8. Tomorrow’s forecast promises some sunlight. Station Master really hopes the forecast is accurate!

WeatherFlow is located in Florida, USA, so it is understandable that their designers have not fully considered high latitude locations. During winter’s darkest period, days here are short, sun shining from low does not provide much power, and combined this with high likelihood of overcast, battery duration of two weeks may be too short.

But at WeatherFlow, they are now quickly developing a power booster to be added to the station, and Weather Station Nagu has been promised to be one of the first ones to get that.
