Weather Station’s ISS transmitter unit came back online, completely out-of-the-blue. Maybe it has something to do with decreased humidity? How stable the functionality is, no one knows. Starting yesterday evening, measurements went offline. Very likely the outside sensor suite’s transmitter unit has failed completely, first symptom being temperature drift that was compensated. Station Master is working on this.

After checking out situation with drifted temperature measurement, the drift seems to be constant. It must be due to some issue with Vantage Pro’s sensor mother board, because replacement sensor did not help. Sensor measurement is now calibrated in weewx software reading Vantage Pro, and published again.

Currently there is an issue with temperature measurement. Seems that after about 4 am today, temperature has started erroneously drifting upward. By the time of writing this, temp is about 5 °C above the true temp. Reason to the issue is not yet clear.

So far, Autumn has been very warm. These average temperature charts show clearly how much warmer it has been from mid-September until now, compared both with all time average and average temp of last year. Also day and night temperature variation has been unusually small.

Webcam showing Käldö water height measure pole is back online after being offline for quite a long time. Reason for it to go easily offline is unknown, but may be due to connectivity issues of mobile network it is connected to. Käldö Water Height Cam

On the morning of August 9, 2020, some interesting clouds were visible on southern sky. Added them to Gallery page.

There is a new video in WS Nagu’s YouTube Video Gallery. In this video, after about 6 seconds, you can see Arcturus setting between west and northwest. Arcturus is the fourth brightest star on sky and the second brightest star visible in Finland.

Station Master hopes that you do not get overdose of these skycam posts… but early on July 10, 2020 (between 12.20-3.30 am) there was again beautiful noctilucent clouds caught by station’s Sky Cam. Video can be seen on station’s YouTube Gallery.

Taivaanvahti (Himlakollen in Swedish, not translated into English) is an observation system maintained by a Finnish Astronomical Association Ursa.
